PEACE & NATURE
Wild camping on private property
Do you want to take a break and are you looking for a unique spot in the Westhoek to relax? We make our estate temporarily available for those who wish to camp in silence in a beautiful piece of nature.
With our micro-campsite we offer a very limited number of camping spots with lots of space and tranquility. It is a meadow of 3 ha with orchard and grove with many shady spots. You can choose your own spot. Outdoor overnight stay without luxury near the sea on the West Coast, the polders, the French border and Heuvelland. Only accessible after reservation.
Or are you looking for a place to camp privately in a group, with family or friends? That is also possible. A SEPARATE space, not visible to the others, is then kept free for the group. To ensure peace of mind, we do NOT mix groups with private spots. Request your reservation below.
An unexpected green piece of nature with a panoramic view over the fields and the village church in the distance. The estate contains an orchard, a small grove and is completely surrounded by a hawthorn hedge, the favorite place of many birds. You can enjoy their singing talents and the sounds of nature. You often see hares, pheasants and partridges. And a beautiful sunset, moon and starry sky - if it's not too cloudy. Pure nature!
It refers to a former 16th century castle farm of which only a partly walled farm is still visible. It is located in the village of Beveren-aan-den-Ijzer, which is part of the Westhoek, also known as 'Bachten de Kupe' (with 'Kupe' refers to the valley where the river Ijzer runs). A large part of this region is characterized by its war history. It is close to Ypres, Heuvelland, the art village of Watou, Veurne, Diksmuide, the Belgian west coast and 100m from the border with Northern France with Bergues and Cassel as beautiful places to visit. With a wooded and mountainous area to one side & the flat land towards the coast (the Moeren - reclaimed area in the 17th Century).
In addition to enjoying nature, you can also do many fun activities:
>Lovely cycling along cycling junctions
>Beautiful walking routes - e.g. the Dode Yzer walk can be started from here, about 18 km / two mountains walking route Heuvelland 7 km
>Laze in a hammock in our grove (bring your own)
>Wooded area where you can spot deer
>Fishing on the Yser in Roesbrugge (1km)
>Canoeing on the Yser in Roesbrugge or from Diksmuide (15km)
>Boat trip on the Yser in Lo-Reninge, info De Hooipiete (10km)
>Dierenpark De Zonnegloed, Oost-Vleteren (10km) >Horse riding in Koksijde, Oostduinkerke or Rodeberg (20km)
>Walking in nature reserve De Westhoek (De Panne)
>Golf & sailing in Oostduinkerke & Nieuwpoort (20 km)
>Tourism on the West Coast (20km)
>Theme parks Plopsaland and Bellewaerde (20km)
>Heuvelland with its beautiful landscape and wine estates Monteberg & Entre deux Monts : guided tour and wine tasting (20km)
>Many war sights in Ypres and surroundings (10km)
> Last Post Menin Gate Ypres, commemoration of fallen soldiers from World War I, daily at 8 pm
>Art village Watou & gallery Emergent in Veurne (10km)
>The best Trappist (abbey beer) in the world, to be tasted in the café/restaurant 'In de Vrede' of the Saint-Sixtus Abbey of West-Vleteren (5 km) and buy a few crates to take home! Always nice to surprise friends with it.
>Or drop by Bar Bernard's new brewery café. On the roof terrace you will be spoiled with a breathtaking view of the wide region around Watou (10 km).
Our village includes a cafe, a shop with farm products, a bread machine and within a radius of 10 km you will find a proxy delhaize (Proven), fresh bakery (Lo), ATM (Proven), doctor (Vleteren), pharmacy (Roesbrugge) and cozy restaurants.
A real camper showers outside, right? We installed a simple solar outdoor shower. This facility ensures that our guests touch the same surfaces as little as possible. A highly recommended facility by Campspace in corona times.
The site is remote. The accommodation is very limited. There are some mobile toilets with disinfectant spray that guarantee comfort. If you have your own Porta Potti, you can always bring it with you.
If you come with your tent or (cara)van, normal use of water and electricity for small conveniences (mobile phone, water heater, coffee maker...) is included. If other devices are connected (fridge, coolbox, etc.), an additional cost of 5 euros/n will be charged, to be paid locally on arrival. Please mention this in advance in your booking request and do not forget to bring an extension cable (50-100m). This gives you more options to choose your favorite place. We do not offer a charging point for a car.
If you come with your campingcar (max 6m): Electricity branch is optional 10 euros/day, to be paid on site upon arrival. Please also mention this in your booking request. We do not offer a sani station. For discharging and tapping off fresh water, etc., we would like to refer you to a fully equipped sani point / car wash nearby in Hondschoote (France 2 km).

We had a great time there. The host is very friendly. the toilet and shower may be a bit basic, but any doubts quickly disappear when you see the landscape. It is a beautiful meadow with a good portion of shade. You almost feel alone there, other campers are 100m or more away. You can camp anywhere you want. A really great place and we will definitely go back. I'm even thinking of going back in a few weeks

This is a beautiful campspace for those who love the countryside, nature, the vastness of the landscape. And for those who love France, because you are right on the border. The place itself is very spacious, neat and sober and you will receive a friendly welcome.
If you like the wide open space of Flanders' fields and the proximity of France, you should come to this campspace in the countryside close to the border. The spot itself is very spacious, clean and simple with a friendly welcoming....

A very nice place, lots of space with a panoramic view...basic facility with outdoor shower - nice and refreshing or chilly, it's a surprise! - and toilet cubicles. Peace, birds everywhere, horses in the surrounding meadows, plenty in the green surroundings with the Yser in the first kilometers on Belgian soil nearby. Village centers of Beveren and Roesbrugge in the vicinity. Pleasant owners, smooth appointments.
How was the contact with the host?
Fast, smooth and friendly, but also at a distance... camping spots and home owners far from each other, so each other's privacy remains intact. Good tips about the area and what to do. Let the meadows take their course, not artificially constructed plots.
Tips for new guests?
Sunset with a view of the French-Flemish border region
Bread machine in Beveren, bread sale in supermarket in Roesbrugge.
Located on many walking routes and cycling junctions, less suitable for those who want to view Poperinge and Ypres up close.
Be sure to cycle or walk across the border...

Thank you for your stay and glad you enjoyed it!
We are located in an agricultural / rural area and with its specific regulations, we can only offer the basic needs. The water in the shower is heated by the sun, so the temperature is not always the same. Back to basics. Enjoy, along with nature.
Beveren-aan-den-Ijzer is a tiny village centrally located between Poperinge - 15 km and Heuvelland, Ypres, Diksmuide, West Coast - all at 25 km. Ideal as a base for walking, cycling in the different directions or to move around short distances by car and explore the different places up close.

Nice, quiet location to pitch your tent. However, the price is too high for the limited facilities available.
July 2021 · Translated from dutch
Hi Robbie,
However, we try to describe everything very well in the text and photos. It is about simplicity, silence and purity. Feeling at home and de-stressing in a unique and well-maintained domain, where only the most necessary utilities are installed where possible. Back to basics. Slow living, along with the rhythm of nature. And this in a region full of views, the National Park of the Westhoek.
Pure nature has become a luxury. And this is what we stand for with our camping spot.
But maybe you had more expectations of a really equipped campsite with more facilities, a smaller surface, more populated and closer together, without the pure nature experience but with more entertainment.
We are therefore very sorry that you did not camp in a place that you were looking forward to.
Regards,
nadine

Very nice place! Unfortunately not good value for money. €70/night for only cold water shower (1 for the whole campsite) and a Dixi. It is a pity that it is indicated that a hot shower is possible, because we have not experienced a single x.
How was the contact with the host?
Good.
Tips for new guests?
If you don't mind taking a cold shower in any weather, this is a nice place to camp. Unfortunately we didn't think it was worth the money.
August 2022 · Translated from dutch
The price is 20 euros and not 70 euros. The text clearly states that we offer outdoor overnight stays without luxury and that there is a mobile toilet and solar shower. The water is heated by the sun, along with nature. Someone recently sent me 'lovely shower'. We regret that you did not experience this. But maybe it's because of the extreme heat and that you didn't feel the heated water. Glad you liked the place. Everyone can stay there peacefully, very far from each other, as it were a private place.
Unique nature spots are not easy to find. The moment you were there, other lodgings had thanked me for opening up our beautiful domain and allowing them to camp there. I surveyed them for the basic plumbing and this was absolutely sufficient for them. They were grateful to me and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful sunset, shooting stars and then the blood moon came up. Unforgettable they said. And they will come back. And that's why we do it. For those who want to step out of their comfort zone and enjoy nature to the fullest. Back to basics. Where it all started.

Hi Ben,
Each camp space has its own individuality. Nobody is professional. Everyone approaches it in his own way, the way he sees the beautiful things in life. And that's the fun of it. To avoid all misunderstandings and to clarify our 'back to basics, enjoy with nature' approach, we have added a very detailed text.
But you hadn't read the accompanying text - you told us that when you arrived. That's why you expected something that wasn't there and your review is wrong. There are 2 portable toilets, well known to you. These are cleaned twice a week and are equipped with disinfectant spray. During your stay 3 campers stayed here. Someone also brought their own porta potti. So they couldn't possibly have been dirty. However, there is no running water. That is also not possible because they are in the meadow, located in an agricultural area. This entails limitations in terms of comfort, no installation of underground pipes allowed - we installed electricity above ground, but this does ensure a unique location with a beautiful nature experience - as you yourself indicated. A curtain is provided for privacy in the shower. This can't be a problem.
Hereby reaction from camper William during your stay. 'I had a good stay at your domain. Everything went well. Maybe till next time.'
We understand your frustration but regret that it has to be this way. When you left early you sent a message 'Dear Nadine, we had to leave earlier than planned. Best Regards. Ben and Kris'. I was thinking of a family reason. And then three weeks later this negative review. We live in an age of openness and we are certainly open to criticism. We can only learn from it. But this is sneaky. As a classic 65+ visitor you bring the rating down with this and you are not punishing me, because I can refute it, but the people who would certainly have a good time here. Because there are already many.
I hope this has made the concept of campspace clear to you. It is not a chain of 1 owner with all the same experiences, but a very diverse range of camping in nature. Especially for open-minded people.
