Back to basics
Do you want to take a break and are you looking for a unique spot in the Westhoek to relax? In current corona times we make our estate temporarily available for those who wish to camp in a beautiful piece of nature. Only accessible after reservation.
In the meadow of 't Kasteelhof, an unexpected green spot (3ha) with a panoramic view over the fields and the village church in the distance. The estate contains an orchard, a small grove and is completely surrounded by a hawthorn hedge, the favorite place of many birds. You can enjoy their singing talents and the sounds of nature. You often see hares, pheasants and partridges. And a beautiful sunset. Pure nature!
't Kasteelhof refers to a former 16th century castle farm of which only a partly walled farm is still visible. It is located in the village of Beveren-aan-den-Ijzer, which is part of the Westhoek, also known as 'Bachten de Kupe' (with 'Kupe' refers to the valley where the river Ijzer runs). A large part of this region is characterized by its war history. It is close to Ypres, Heuvelland, the art village of Watou, Veurne, Diksmuide, the Belgian West Coast and 100m from the border with Northern France.
In addition to enjoying nature, you can also do many fun activities:
>Lovely cycling along cycling junctions
>Beautiful walking routes - eg the Dode Yzer walk can be started from here, about 12 km
>Wooded area where you can spot deer & the flat land towards the coast (the Moeren - reclaimed area in the 17th century)
>Fishing on the Yser in Roesbrugge (1km)
>Canoeing on the Yser in Roesbrugge or from Diksmuide (15km)
>Golf & sailing in Oostduinkerke & Nieuwpoort (20 km)
>Tourist attractions on the West Coast (20km)
>Theme parks Plopsaland and Bellewaerde (20km)
>Many war sights in Ypres and surroundings (10km)
>Art galleries in Watou & Veurne (10km)
>The best abbey beers in the world. Taste the best beer in the world in the café of the Sint-Sixtus Abbey of West-Vleteren and buy a few crates to take home! Always nice to surprise friends with it. Or visit the new bar with a fantastic view of the St-Bernardus brewery in Watou.
The village includes a café and a shop with farm products and within a radius of 10 km you will find a proxy delhaize (Proven), fresh bakery (Lo), ATM (Proven), doctor (Vleteren), pharmacy (Roesbrugge) and cozy restaurants.
With our micro-campsite, we offer very spacious camping pitches where peace and quiet prevails. It is a meadow of 3 ha with orchard and grove with many shady spots. Everyone can choose their own spot, far apart.
A real camper showers outside, right? We installed a simple solar outdoor shower. This facility ensures that our guests touch the same surfaces as little as possible. A highly recommended facility by Campspace in corona times.
The site is remote. The accommodation is very limited. There are some mobile toilets with disinfectant spray that guarantee comfort. If you have your own Porta Potti, you can always bring it with you.
If you come with your tent or (cara)van, normal use of water and electricity for small items (mobile phone, water heater, coffee maker...) is included. If other devices are connected (fridge, coolbox, etc.), an additional cost of 10 euros/n will be charged, to be paid locally on arrival. Please report this in advance in your booking request.
If you come with your camping car: Electricity branch is optional 25 euros/day, to be paid on site upon arrival. Please also mention this in your booking request. For a sani station with regard to discharging and branching off fresh water, etc., we would like to refer you to a fully equipped sani point / car wash nearby in Hondschoote (France 2 km).

Hello, I am Nadine and I live here with John and our 3 kids. We enjoy peace and nature every day and want to share this with you in corona times. We can help you a lot in the area and John will be happy to tell you more about the war sites in the Westhoek and the region of Northern France. Our kids will come and take a look now and then. We look forward to meeting you!

Very kindly received and good explanation about the region.
Tips for new guests?
The shower works on the heat of the sun, so showering in the morning can be a bit chilly

Nice place in the Westhoek, lots of space and privacy, it almost looks like wild camping. Ideal location for visiting Watou arts festival and walking (or cycling) along the Yser.

Nice, quiet location to pitch your tent. However, the price is too high for the limited facilities available.

Hi Robbie,
However, we try to describe everything very well in the text and photos. It is about simplicity, silence and purity. Feeling at home and de-stressing in a unique and well-maintained domain, where only the most necessary utilities are installed where possible. Back to basics. Slow living, along with the rhythm of nature. And this in a region full of views, the National Park of the Westhoek.
Pure nature has become a luxury. And this is what we stand for with our camping spot.
But maybe you had more expectations of a really equipped campsite with more facilities, a smaller surface, more populated and closer together, without the pure nature experience but with more entertainment.
We are therefore very sorry that you did not camp in a place that you were looking forward to.
Regards,
nadine
