Camping a short distance from the Wadden coast, just outside Usquert. And that in our De Waard tent, De Zilvermeeuw, on the private property. Without rows of tents around you. This means camping in the middle of the Groninger Landscape with the purest air, silence, real dark nights. It will be sleeping in a tent like Jan Wolkers and Godfried Bomans did, in a real cotton De Waard tent. For bird watchers: the Groningen landscape along the Wadden coast offers nature an extensive collection of birds.

Furnished tents on private property
We rent out two tents, De Zilvermeeuw and the Little Tern. We hope to stimulate camping by offering you a furnished tent. We can understand that the idea of having to pitch a tent is exhausting. Tugging poles and lugging camping equipment often prevents people from camping. That's too bad. We so hope that your past camping experience returns.

In the outbuilding with a kitchenette there is a separate provision for electricity, hot and cold running water for washing up. And there is a simple two-burner for cooking on a butane gas set. Shower and toilet in the house. There is also a lovely garden shower (hot & cold water) with a view over the fields.

We visited Aafke and George with the aim of photographing the Perseids (annual swarm of 'shooting stars'). Just a stone's throw away you will find the Noordpolderzijl on the mudflats in Usquert (at Café Zielhoes), including a rich view with crystal clear sky. The 'Dark Sky Park' Lauwersmeer is also nearby, one of the darkest places in the Netherlands. The Perseids were in both places, a breathtaking sight.

We enjoyed our time with George and Aafke very much, thank you for taking good care of us! Very sweet, like to have a chat and Corona aware. Come to photograph the stars, stay for the deliciously sweet rose water (recommended), the chickens, the unobstructed view to the horizon (from under the outdoor shower) and above all the infinite peace.

We were received very hospitably.
For an overnight stay, it's great that you don't have to pack everything and take it with you.
All the important things you use for camping are present and your tent is ready!
So that there is time left to enjoy.

For example, visit the oldest Wierde (Gronings for mound) in the Netherlands, Rottum. Or go to Noordpolderzijl, this is the base for going mudflat hiking. Groningen (city) is easily accessible from Usquert, you will find the highest climbing wall in the Netherlands here and it is always pleasant in the center of this city. From Usquert you can enjoy cycling and/or walking.

After these activities (or the next morning) you can take a lovely shower under the outdoor shower.
This shower is neatly screened and overlooks the farmland. There is also the option to rinse with cold water from the bucket.

Back at the Campspace you have access to your own kitchenette with one 2-burner stove and sufficient kitchenware and cutlery/service. There is also a lean-to with a bench, chairs and table where you can sit and enjoy your meal and the view.

The Herring Gull is a beautiful spacious tent with mattresses, in the awning there is enough space to sit, play a game or read.

The Little Tern is a cute little sister of the Herring Gull, it is equipped with air mattresses and seats at the tent.

George and Aafke are hospitable, helpful and thoughtful.

Once back home, all we had to do was put away our sleeping bag and bag of clothes.
This is really camping without dragging ;-)

Very kindly received by Aafke and Sjors. The garden is beautiful with a lot of privacy. Slept in a set up De Waarden tent (really worth it) between the fruit trees and the chickens. It is a luxury not to have to set up your tent as a “bikepacker”. There was a lovely outdoor shower where you could look over the meadow while showering. Everything had been thought of; hob, cool box, coffee/tea, camping light, table, chairs, and much more. The campsite is located close to the Wadden Sea with great cycling routes nearby. Nice place with nice hosts, really worth it!

Arrival and departure
On the day of arrival, your camping spot is available from 2 p.m. In the early and late season you can often come earlier, but it is wise to inquire about this in advance!

On the day of departure, we ask you to clear the camping spot no later than 11 am.
Visitors and guests must always report to the reception upon arrival.

We wish you and your group a pleasant stay at our camping site in Usquert with the space and tranquility of the Wadden coast. We hope to stimulate camping by offering you a furnished tent. We can understand that the idea of having to pitch a tent is exhausting. The towing of tent poles and the lugging of camping equipment prevents people from camping. And that's a shame. We hope that because the tent has already been set up for you, we hope to invite you to return this past camping experience.
