My name is Frank and I would love to welcome you at my Campspace. My interests: nature, hiking, rest, sauna and dancing. I like to welcome people who are open to all kinds of positive influences such as sustainability and people-friendliness. And of course people who like camping :).
Frank, your host has designed NATUREFULNESS, a way of living and a way to experience nature more consciously, in connection and wonder. You can discover nature in all its facets in the to-be shops in the nearby Liedekerkebos, among others. Campers of at least two nights receive the to-be-shop during their stay at a 50% discount. Minimum 6 participants. The Naturefulness book will be published in 2022.
Experience the fairytale forest, you imagine yourself in the Ardennes and walk on to the Neigembos. Walk in the Kravaalbos, Wolfsputten, Kesterheide or Zoniënwoud.. Pajottenland walking junction map.
Go cycling in the beautiful Pajottenland. Spot our barn owls, they live in our barn. https://outsideraalst.be/nl/friendsandfamilyn.

We had a fantastic, peaceful four nights camping at Aarde Oase. There is a small herd of Highland cattle in the next field with the occasional deer scampering across at dawn. Barn owls nesting in the campsite barn go out hunting at night and you can see them, if you are willing to stay up late enough. We came by train but it's a manageable bike ride from Brussels, and next time we'll travel there this way. Having a bike would make nearby sights, like the castle at Ternat and decent food shops more accessible. We went with a five year old and she agreed it was "the best holiday ever", and has a collection of leaves, nuts, and owl feathers to prove it. Frank is a friendly, helpful host, who made us feel very welcome without imposing himself. He has gone a long way to create a cool and ecologically sustainable campsite, which we really appreciated. We highly recommend this campsite.
How was the contact with the host?

Tips for new guests?
If on foot, bring all the food you need with you, or come by bike and you'll be able to get to the shops for supplies.

Thank you Giles, it was a pleasure to host you. I am delighted to read that you thought it was fantastic. Food stores 20 minutes on foot, part of which through the forest. We are thinking of renting bikes, good tip, thank you! Warm regards, Frank.

A small but very nice campsite with a beautiful view. In the evening you can see the Owl, which lives in the barn next to the campsite, flying out. The area is very beautiful and very suitable for people who like to walk. The campsite is neat and quiet.

Thank you Hugo and Noah & Marcia! Thank you for the compliments. We do not call it a campsite ourselves, it is a place that we as citizens offer to camp. We do have many facilities as on a campsite and we like to keep it small. Glad you were here, I enjoyed the conversations. Hopefully your next places were also to your liking. Warm regards, Frank.

Fairly quiet area with a train, plane in the background. With us it was the breeding season of the owls. So some scratching at night. So sounds of nature. Well-equipped campsite (covered shed, table, chairs, refrigerator available, spring water. Nice, relaxing experience
How was the contact with the host?
Friendly welcome. open minded.

Thank you. The noise from planes and trains is rather rare throughout the year. The sound of the owls, the scratching you hear especially if you spend the night near the nest box. Glad you were here, traveling by bike, I think that's fantastic.

Tips for new guests?
Shops and restaurants in the neighbourhood are few and often closed early in the summer. Bring enough food and drinks.
Berchem bos and Wolfsputten are excellent walks. But more "wandelknooppunten" can be found in the barn.

Beautiful surroundings, good and well-kept facilities (shower, refrigerator, eco toilets, hobs) for a campsite. The sauna is currently not in use (due to the Corona measures). The only thing that took us out of our “earth oasis” every now and then was the unrest and what felt like the camping owner’s mistrust, which led to uncomfortable encounters. The camping regulations seemed to change with the mood of the campsite owner. A clear and concrete vision of what is allowed and what not (with regard to topless sunbathing, making a campfire, drinking a bottle of wine?). And a clear price list (with regard to wood, blanket, waste) could help the camping owner to offer his campers a warm stay.

We were the only ones on the camping for the whole weekend. The garden was beautiful and the weather as well. There is a small forest next door, but it is certainly not the middle of nature.
Some rules of the host did not make any sense to us. We were not allowed to drive over the gravel road to unload our stuff, while the host and campervans could drive that road. The way from the parking to the garden is quite long if you have a lot of gear with you.
Showers, toilet and fridge were nice. The barn was quite dirty and we wouldn’t want to relax there. There are a lot of planes flying over. The host says it is bad luck, but Zaventem and Charleroi are close by… There is also noise from trains and cars. This weekend there was a festival next door, but even without it, it would have been noisy.
How was the contact with the host?
He was very nice and was always there if we had any questions. We could not always understand his rules, and he did not explain them.
