A guide to capturing your campspace in photos

A guide to capturing your campspace in photos

We'll tell you all about our Scout Programma, and also how you can take incredible photos yourself. We'll teach you how to upgrade your listing to the next level.

Do your property justice on Campspace! We’ve got thousands of pitches listed on our website, so in order to make your space stand out, there are a few key components you can upgrade on your space page that will make a big difference. With the number one impactful change being the photography! We recommend you applying for a scout visit, to get the best looking photos - but we’ll also share tips on how to shoot some great photos of your space yourself! You don’t need to be a pro, you just need the right tips and tricks and we’re here to give them to you.

1. Scout programme

Our scout programme is designed to help those of you that don’t necessarily have the right photography experience or equipment to get good looking photos of your space. Make sure your space page has the best photos by asking for a scout visit on your profile. A scout visit can increas your bookings up to 300%! But there are many more reasons to opt for a scout visit, which you can read about in our top 5 reasons to apply for a scout visit.

It might be tricky for us to find a scout close by in some regions and it can therefore take some time before you get these high quality photos. The following tips can help you with taking your own (temporary) photos before a scout is able to visit your space.

2. Taking your own photos

We’ll break down some of our basic rules of thumb for shooting great photos for your listing and social media. These might just get you as excited about photography as we are!

What you’ll need.

  • It’s best to use a digital camera.
  • If you don’t have one, you can use a phone with a good quality camera.

Campspace’s photo requirements

It’s very important that you do not edit photos on your phone. This will compromise the quality and size of the image file. If you’ve received photos through a messaging app like Whatsapp or Facebook Messenger, this has also altered the size and quality. That means: no adding of filters, resizing or anything of the sorts! We will not be able to use any photos that have been altered on your mobile phone or are too low in quality.

  • You can edit and retouch your photos on your computer, using a program like Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Photoshop. This is not required. We can also do it for you if needed.

Photos for your listing

These should include:

  • Photos of you pitch types and facilities
  • Photos of the landscape and camping grounds
  • Photos of people (hosts and guests), animals and activities on the grounds

Note that horizontal / landscape photos are best for your listing page, but vertical photos are better for Social Media.

Photos for social media

In order to give our hosts a platform on Campspace's social media, we want to share as many brilliant photos and videos of their spaces as possible. Our social media platforms, have a combined audience of 50,000 outdoor enthusiasts across Europe. This can introduce quite a lot of potential guests to your campspace!

The same types of photos are used on Social Media as on your listing page. Note that on socials it’s better to use vertical / portrait photos.

Make sure you shoot both horizontal and vertical photos to get the optimal result and exposure.

Photography advice

  • Light

Ideally you should take photos on a sunny day during mornings and evenings. These times of the day will give you the most friendly lighting. Mid-day in the sun will often give you quite harsh lighting which is less attractive.

  • Declutter

This one is quite obvious, but needs to be mentioned anyways. Make sure that you’re photographing a clean and relatively tidy space. Especially when you take photos of accommodation on site, you want it to look inviting.

  • Angles

Try to experiment with different angles. Photos taken from a lower angle or higher angle are often more interesting. Try placing a tree or plant in the corner for extra depth and effect.

  • Model or props

Ask your friends or family to give life to the photos. Do you have a pet? Let your pet model for you! You can also use props like camping gear to create a cosy looking scenery. Another option is to add close ups of specific details on your space.

Sending in photos

Last but not least, we have to receive these incredible and creative shots you took of your space. This is how to send them to us:

  • Naming your files

In order for us to always link a photo back to the photographer and your campspace, it’s important to name your files the right way. (Re)name your photos in the following manner:

Name _ social handle _ space ID code _ number (counting of photos)

To give you an example, here’s how I save my own photos for Campspace:

Don’t worry, you don’t have to name these one by one. There are easy ways to bulk name all your photos.

On Windows, you can batch rename images by selecting (shift+click or ctrl+click to select your files, or press ctrl+a to select all files in your current folder) and pressing right click ‘Rename’. Your file names will get numbered automatically.

On mac it works in a similar way: select the files (command+A to select all, or command+click to select specific ones) and then press Control. In the shortcut menu that will pop up it will give you the chance to click ‘Rename’. Choose ‘Format’, fill in the instructed name in the ‘Custom format’. The number at the end will be done automatically.

  • Unsure where to find your space ID?

You can always find the space ID on your listing, otherwise known as your space page. It’s the number in the grey square, right below the ‘about this campspace’ text.

  • Get access to your own drive folder to upload

Easiest is to share your photos with us through your personal drive folder. Don't have access yet? Please contact us through photos@campspace.com and we'll make sure you get access.

Within your drive folder, you can make new folders for every space that you scout. Simple and organised.
