Even though the Netherlands is only small, there is a lot to discover. We have therefore mapped out a beautiful motorhome route Netherlands for you.

A tour of your own country with this motorhome route Netherlands

This motorhome route Netherlands takes you on a tour of the Netherlands. We divide the route into places where you can stay overnight, but we also give tips on what to do nearby. The places to stay overnight are:

Campspace near Heemskerk Campspace in Loënga Campspace in Zevenhuizen Campspace in Giethem Campspace near Toldijk Campspace in De Mortel Campspace near the Brouwersdam.

Find the motorhome route on Google Maps here. Total time in the car is 7 hours 57, but because of the 7 overnight stops, you never have to drive for a long time in a row.

Ondanks dat Nederland maar klein is, valt er veel te ontdekken. We hebben daarom een mooie camperroute Nederland voor je uitgestippeld.

1. Camping Amsterdam aan Zee, Heemskerk

We start the camper tour Netherlands in this blog in Heemskerk, but you can of course start the tour at any of the locations.

This Camping Amsterdam aan Zee is a nice mini campsite right on the North Sea coast. There are 8 camping spots where you can go with your campervan. The campsite has good sanitary facilities and hot water showers are included. An added bonus: you can also empty your chemical toilet here.

The camp space is centrally located between Amsterdam, Alkmaar and Haarlem. So if you want to take a trip, you can easily do so from this base. There is always plenty to do in Amsterdam, but Haarlem and Alkmaar are also very pleasant. Our tip: bring your bicycle! Then you can just leave your campervan on the camp site, because the cities are so close, you can easily go by bike.

Not such a city person? Then this is still the right place for you. The camp space is located in a rural area and super close to the beach. The place therefore offers peace and quiet and is ideal for a nice walk through the dunes or a bike ride along the (bulb) fields.

You can also surf, kite surf, horse ride, swim, fish and canoe nearby. Feel like a day on the town? Then visit the Zaanse Schans or Volendam.

2. Camping near Sneek

Heemskerk is a great place to spend a few days, so feel free to stay a few days! If you do want to move on, drive through Noord-Holland and over the Afsluitdijk to Loënga, near Sneek. You can park your camper here on spacious camper spaces in the back of Herma's garden. On the campspace you can find a toilet block with a toilet and hot shower.

Although Loënga is not a far drive from Heemskerk, here you are in a completely different world. From the camp space, you have a view of Sneek and the region is characterised by its many Frisian lakes. In the area, there are therefore various possibilities to rent a boat or go supping.

Would you rather stay on dry land? Then visit the beautiful centre of Sneek. All the Frisian Eleven Cities have a fountain to connect the cities, and Sneek's is a must-see.

The area is also great to explore by bike. Take a lovely bike ride along the various lakes or visit other Frisian towns. Among others, Joure is within cycling distance of the camp area, at around 50 minutes.

Besides swimming in the nearby Sneekermeer lake, you can also take a trip to the Slotermeer or Heegermeer lake. The Frisian lakes are also ideal for sailing. In short: plenty of options for a nice overnight stay, or even several nights.

3. Minicamping de Veldstreek, Zevenhuizen

After Loënga, continue your campervan route Netherlands and drive straight through the province to Zevenhuizen. This is just on the border with Drenthe. You can get there in an hour by motorway, but you can also set your navigation to avoid motorways. That way you'll discover all the great places along the way.

The mini campsite near Zevenhuizen has space for six motorhomes. These spots have access to an electricity connection. There is also a toilet block with toilets, and showers with hot water. Should you want to wash clothes, there is a washing machine to use.

The campsite is another fine base to explore the surrounding area. Take a day trip to the always lively Groningen, take a walk through the Frisian or Drenthe forests, or get on your bike to discover much more of the area. Not far from the campsite you will also find a barefoot path. Whether you are travelling with or without children, this is definitely worthwhile. Nothing better than playing outside and standing up to your knees in the mud. On hot days, there are also several places where you can go swimming. Among others, the Rono beach is not far from the camp space.

Travelling with children? The campsite has plenty of playground equipment. In addition, Nienoord and the Doolhofpark in Bakkeveen are great fun for the little ones and all not far away.

4. Off-grid camping on a farm, Giethmen

After Zevenhuizen, continue your way to Giethmen, a small town next to Ommen in Overijssel. Choose the most scenic route and set your navigation to avoid motorways again. Also, feel free to take time to stop at scenic spots along the way.

You spend the night in Giethmen behind Janneke's farmyard. At this spot, it feels like you are wild camping. You stand by yourself in the tall grass, at the edge of the forest and have a beautiful view over the fields where the cows are grazing. Set your alarm early, the sunrise there is phenomenal! Feel free to take a look in the barn too, especially the bull likes to get a bit of attention.

From the camp space you can make beautiful walks and cycling trips. Take a stroll through the forest or along the river Regge. On warm days, this is a great place to take a dip. You can also rent canoes nearby. Want to discover more of the area? There are beautiful routes throughout Vechtdal. Afterwards, you can sit down at one of the many outdoor cafés or relax in front of your camper.

We stay a little longer in the east of the country. Indeed, an hour south of Giethmen lies Book this campspace in Toldijk. It is a site with many spacious spots for motorhomes, camper vans and tents. There is also a toilet block with ladies and gents toilets and showers. On the camping spots you can use electricity. There is also a cosy firepit for the evening and on hot days you can take a dip in the natural swimming pond.

This campspace is also great fun for children, as you can explore the land and make the playground equipment unsafe.

Close to the camp space are, among others, the atmospheric Hanseatic cities of Zutphen and Doesburg. Those towns are definitely worth a visit! The peaceful landscape of the camp space is part of the so-called coulisse landscape; a beautiful alternation of woods, meadows, fields and hedgerows. In between are beautiful characteristic farmhouses. Ideal for a nice cycling or walking tour. A little further away, you can also take beautiful cycling and walking trips across the Veluwezoom. Take enough change with you on your trips. You will find several farm shops with regional products or roadside stalls with seasonal fruit and vegetables!

6. Karin and Bert's mini campsite in De Mortel (North Brabant)

The motorhome route through the Netherlands continues into North Brabant to the town of De Mortel. Stop on the way there in Nijmegen or follow the route through Germany and be surprised by the things you see along the way.

At the minicamping you camp among fruit trees full of apples, cherries, cooking pears, pears and plums. Those fruit trees attract many birds, butterflies and bees, and being in the middle of the countryside, you will find peace and quiet. The mini campsite has good sanitary facilities and electricity is available. In the evening, you can enjoy a campfire or barbecue.

Start the day with fresh eggs from the chickens and rolls from the sandwich service. That way you'll have enough energy for the day ahead! Nature reserve the Stippelberg is the backyard of this mini camping site and it is wonderful for hiking. In addition, a number of great cycling routes start from the campsite. On a nice summer's day, you can also swim nearby. Afterwards, plop down on a terrace in a nearby village.

7. Nature campsite, Brouwersdam

After De Mortel, drive on to Brouwersdam. This is the last stop of the tour and our motorhome route Netherlands. On the way, stop at the Biesbosch for a nice walk or a trip on the water. Who knows, you might spot a beaver!

The nature campsite at Brouwersdam is very spacious, has lots of trees and birds and the occasional spotting of a deer in the morning! It is a cosy campsite with hammocks, a campfire place, nice lighting and a nice bathroom with toilet. There are no fixed pitches, so just put your camper wherever you like.

Start the morning with a nice yoga class and spend the rest of the day lazing around with a good book in the hammock. Or get out and about! Visit the authentic town of Brouwershaven, walk to the Grevelingenmeer or spend a day on the beach at Brouwersdam. Did you know that Brouwersdam is one of the most famous (kite)surf spots in the Netherlands? So you might run into surfers here at the campsite and they can probably tell you what the best spots are. If not, you can always ask landlord Quirien for tips!
