The IJsselmeer is the biggest lake in the Netherlands, with an area of 1100 km². The lake used to be part of the Zuiderzee sea before it was closed off with a manmade dyke called the Afsluitdijk. It is where the rivers Rhine, Vecht, Amstel and IJssel end.
