The Vosges is a department of the Grand-Est region. This region is located in the North-East of France, also known as the historical region of Lorraine. 

But the Vosges is also a mountain range that separates the Lorraine Plateau and the Alsace Plain and therefore crosses 2 regions and 7 departments. With a surface area of 6,000 km2, the Vosges massif is one of the best known and most popular mountain ranges in France.

The Vosges was also the scene of several important battles during the Wars of Religion and the Thirty Years War.
